Bittersweet

It's interesting the moments you remember in life...

Some memories of the last little while have left a bad taste in my mouth:

-Madam Asay (as Colin calls her) still calls Mondrian "Mo-tree-ehn" and Cassatt "Caw-sat"
-I haven't caught up on homework since tour... yet.
-Every time that Colin gets sick, he will get a small runny nose, maybe a cough (like right now) and feel completely fine. He then proceeds to give the disease to me and it then wipes me out for at least a week. (I swear that I've been sick more times since we've been married than in the prior 5 years of my life...)
-Our apartment is disgusting. With a capital 'D'

And then there are the sweet memories:

-Colin and I have been married 11 months! I love being married! I love Colin! :)

-Colin does nice things for me all the time.
-I turned 23. I like my birthdays.
-We went on tour to Colorado! It was so great. No homework at all got done.
-Chocolate milk was on sale the other day :)
-Work was fantastic last week! My boss, Tom, was teaching a workshop at a book collectors conference and I helped him all day. He and I taught a small group of people about different photographic processes and we all made our own silver gelatin prints (which I make every day...) and salt prints (which I had never done.) I actually got to interact with other people, when usually I'm alone. In a darkroom. Alone. So it was a happy day.
-I also got a raise at work. :)

Finally, there are those times that are bittersweet. The times that I'm not sure how to feel...

-Tour with a sinus infection. I loved tour. I hated life. I was sick the whole time we were gone, but better the day after we got home. On the up side, I didn't miss any more school than I had to. But, when sinus infections move to your teeth and your eyes, you can't dance without feeling like someone is pulling out your molars, and you want to dig your eyeballs out with a spoon. A dull spoon. Luckily, I love performing, Colin's dad gave me pills, and there weren't any dull spoons around.
-I discovered yesterday that I don't have any finals scheduled during finals week! Up side- I basically have a week off from school before spring term begins. Down side, all my projects are due next week. Why I am blogging right now is beyond me...
-I can cook pasta with cheese beautifully. It's so great when you make it from scratch. But I can not, (Colin will deny, but he has never experienced the horror,) and I repeat, can NOT make mac and cheese from a box. Without fail, ALL my life, something has gone horribly and terribly wrong. I refuse to make it now. But is that a good or bad thing? What do I do when in the future my kids want mac and cheese for lunch? Tell them, 'sorry kids, not til your father gets home'? What a sad life our kids will have...
-I have listened to 2 books since I finished the Count: Pride and Prejudice and the Great Gatsby (which I listened to twice...) It's awesome because I am now into Les Mis. Down side, excepting last week, I never interact with my coworkers. I have no social interaction with anyone at work. Unless my boss decides to come visit me in the dark sometimes...

Colin and I are experiencing a bittersweet experience right now. (he's actually already blogged about it.) We have wondered about our last year of school, and recently found out our favorite, seemingly impossible wish has actually happened. We had hoped against logical thinking for this to happen, and to our surprise, our wish came true. We were so happy.

Right now, we feel horrible. Our wish came true, yes, but seemingly at the expense of others. I have a hard time rejoicing in my good fortune when I see others disappointed, even angry and hurt, at my dream being fulfilled. How can I be happy when so many other hopes are now in question, or even destroyed now?

Colin and I should be happy. Despite what others may say, I can't rejoice just yet. At this point all we can do is what the Count tells us in the end- Wait and Hope.
